Screening

  • Colorectal cancer is largely preventable through screening, as most cases start from benign polyps. Early detection and removal of these polyps can prevent cancer development. Since early-stage colon cancer often has no symptoms, screening increases the chance of finding it early when treatment is more effective. Screening should begin at age 45 and continue until age 75 for most individuals. Routine screening is not recommended for those aged 76-85. Discuss with your doctor to determine the best screening schedule based on your risk factors. [Sources: American Cancer Society; U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF)]
